Little Red Riding Hood

Reception class enjoyed ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ as their book of the week and ‘little’ was one of their new tricky for now words.

Inspired by Little Red Riding Hood liking all things red and making a cake for her Grandma, the children decided to make red velvet cupcakes.

The children learnt about good hygiene and all washed their hands very carefully, before touching any of the ingredients. They used lots of maths skills for measuring the ingredients and checking on the time for baking, as well of lots of physical development skills for mixing, pouring and squeezing the icing. They also watched CBeebies’ Maddie explain the science behind how cakes rise. Thank you to Lisa, our cook, for helping us by giving us the right equipment, utensils and the use of your oven. The cakes were delicious and the children thought “It was the best day ever!”.
